where to eat…
Great food, in beautiful locations, within easy reach of Casa Nova:
The houses each have very well equipped kitchens for enthusiastic chefs keen to make the most of local produce. There are markets on Wednesday and Saturday in Umbertide, as well as a good range of well stocked supermarkets. See listings here. We can also recommend a local team you can book to come in and cook for you (at your cost). However, you will want to explore some of the excellent restaurants close by and we also have a few recommendations for places a bit further afield that might be ideal on a day when you are out and about doing some touristing in the area.

Restaurants useful on day trips:
Here are a few places we particularly like that you might find fit the bill when you are out seeing the sights.
After checking out the market in Citta di Castello, how about a long lunch at Trattoria Lea (a very traditional family run trattoria in the centre of town) and then maybe visit the Pinacoteca and the Burri collection? Also excellent and absolutely full of locals, but completely off the tourist track in the outskirts of town, is Il Sesto Canto, named for Dante’s Sixth Canto (the gluttons) which is an apt homage to their excellent home made pasta: Il Sesto Canto – Ristorante Pizzeria – Città di Castello
La Locanda Del Capitano nice family run restaurant in Montone, a beautiful hilltown about half an hour away. The chef is an enthusiastic historian of Italian food and often includes interesting dishes you won’t find elsewhere. Other options in the same town are Tipico (emphasis on zero kilometre local produce) and Erba di Luna (good all round trattoria).
VOCABOLO MOSCATELLI | Boutique Hotel & Restaurant in Umbria – Italy small and very tastefully equipped boutique hotel and fine dining restaurant, just on the other side of our mountain. The guy who makes your cocktails is called the Director of Happiness…
In pretty countryside just off the E45 if you are heading to or from Perugia is Il Caldaro, a cut above the standard trattorias. Summer dining outside in the attractive gardens: Il Caldaro – Restaurant
In Perugia itself, we like this enoteca for a lunch between visiting the sights – a wine bar offering simple but very good food: Osteria a Priori – Perugia
If you would like to combine a leisurely lunch or dinner with a tasting of local wines, a good bet in the foothills below Perugia is Terra del Carmine – Organic wine, culinary experiences & events
There are a number of lovely Renaissance villas in the valley below Cortona which have been converted to hotels and restaurants, including the very beautiful Villa di Piazzano Villa di Piazzano – Small Luxury Hotels | Hotels Cortona Tuscany | Accommodation in Cortona Tuscany
The Locanda dell’Amorosa, near Sinalunga, in the countryside south of Siena, offers fine dining in an elegant setting: Hotel Locanda dell’Amorosa Sinalunga – Hotel WebSite
